Making a Collage is a Very Special Keepsake Gift

What could be easier than making a collage?

Whether it is for Mother's Day, any other special occasion or just for fun a collage can become a truly memorable gift made from the heart.

It's one of those art projects that isn't just a kids craft; making a collage is a great craft activity for the very young to the very old.

The picture of the collage I submitted has its own very special story.

You see, my boys spent several weeks every summer in Newport with my Parents. My Mom would dream up these fabulous craft projects to keep the boys entertained for days. Making a collage was by far, one of the most fun craft projects they ever created.

My Mom had the boys spend days collecting their favorite mementos at the time such as family pictures, buttons, clippings from magazines, bottle tops, stickers, little trinkets. . . name it and they collected a little treasure trove of special items before they began creating their collage.

This is my son Jameson's collage. See his cute little picture of himself towards the bottom left hand quarter of the collage? My Mom framed that collage he made when he was about 9 years old.

He even used the picture mat as part of the canvas for his artwork along with gluing little sports trinkets to the glass once the collage was framed so it really creates an amazing 3D effect.

Both my parents have since passed away, so the collages that the boys made that summer have now become an extra special keepsake. Their collages now remind them of the summers scouring everywhere they went in Newport for their special collage items with their Grandparents. Both of my sons, 15 years later, still proudly have their collage hanging in their bedrooms.

They really do look quite artistic and fun don't they?

Hi Sue,

I have been making collages all my life. Collage photo albums, goal boards, dream boards etc.

And yes, ones made by your children are wonderful reminders of things they have done, collected and enjoyed. A great way to visually see where they have been and how they have grown.

Thank you for sharing your son's special time with his special Nan.

Regards
SuperNan

Frame It Up

Great idea.
I use old picture frames and glue the pictures etc onto the backing board.
Cork boards make great picture collage boards. Glue or stick the pictures or use a stapler. Open up the stapler and press it onto the board, staple straight into the picture. Drawing pins are great to use as well, colored or plain.
